چکیده

Distortion analysis of nonlinear circuits is very important for designing analog integrated circuits and communication systems. In this letter, we propose an efficient frequency-domain approach for calculating frequency response curves, which is based on HB (harmonic balance) method combining with ABMs (Analog Behavior Models) of Spice. Firstly, nonlinear devices such as bipolar transistors and MOSFETs are transformed into the HB device modules executing the Fourier transformations. Using these modules, the determining equation of the HB method is formed by the equivalent sine-cosine circuit in the schematic form or netlist. It consists of the coupled resistive circuits, so that it can be efficiently solved by the DC analysis of Spice. In our algorithm, we need not to derive any troublesome circuit equations, and any kinds of the transformations. key words: frequency-domain analysis, Volterra series method, spiceoriented harmonic balance method, HB device modules

Spice-Oriented Distortion Analysis of Nonlinear Networks

Frequency-domain distortion analysis is very important for designing the analog integrated circuits. We propose here a new method based on the Spice-oriented harmonic balance method, where the Fourier transformations of the resistive circuits driven by a periodic input are carried out by the Fourier transfer circuit model. The circuit is composed of the analog behavior models(ABM) of Spice, whi...

Nonlinear Circuit Simulation in the Frequency-domain∗

Simulation in the frequency-domain avoids many of the severe problems experienced when trying to use traditional time-domain simulators such as Spice [1] to find the steady-state behavior of analog, RF, and microwave circuits. In particular, frequency-domain simulation eliminates problems from distributed components and high-Q circuits by forgoing a nonlinear differential equation representatio...

Output-Conductance Transition-Free Method for Improving Radio-Frequency Linearity of SOI MOSFET Circuits

In this article, a novel concept is introduced to improve the radio frequency (RF) linearity of partially-depleted (PD) silicon-on-insulator (SOI) MOSFET circuits. The transition due to the non-zero body resistance (RBody) in output conductance of PD SOI devices leads to linearity degradation. A relation for RBody is defined to eliminate the transition and a method to obtain transition-free c...

Algorithms for Coupled Transient Simulation of Circuits and Complicated 3-D Packaging

In this paper techniques are described for coupled simulation of complicated 3-D interconnect and non-linear transistor drivers and receivers. The approach is based on combining: multipole-accelerated method-of-moments techniques for extracting frequency-dependent inductances and resistances for the interconnect ; a sectioning method for tting the frequency-domain data with a rational function;...

From Circuit Theory, Simulation to SPICEDiego: A Matrix Exponential Approach for Time-Domain Analysis of Large-Scale Circuits

SPICE (Simulation Program with Integrated Circuit Emphasis) is a widely used circuit simulation framework for integrated circuit designs. The basic skeleton of SPICE time domain simulation was derived from the versions developed in UC Berkeley during the 1970s. In this paper, we report most recent numerical integration methods to improve traditional SPICE time integration schemes, which are bas...
